1. Hand Requirements
We do not hire warm bodies. We hire operators. Every Bird Dog hand must clear three bars, which are technical, safety, and culture. If someone cannot carry all three of those bars, they do not carry our logo.
Technical Bar
Proven directional experience in EM, MWD, conventional work, or directional drilling depending on role. Comfortable making real time decisions with imperfect data and tight windows. Understands BHA design, downhole mechanics, and how parameters actually translate to the bit on bottom.
Communicates clearly with company men, rig crews, and Denver operations without drama or unnecessary noise. If you cannot keep a calm head while the well is trying to come apart, you are not a Bird Dog hand.
Safety Bar
Active, valid oilfield certifications such as H2S, PEC, First Aid and CPR, with site specific training as needed. A track record of running sound operations with zero tolerance for shortcuts or the phrase “we have always done it this way.”
Full buy in on stop work authority, which means that when you see something off, you say something and you shut it down. Strong understanding of JSAs, lock out and tag out procedures, confined space rules, and basic rig hazard recognition. We do not rely on hope that things are safe.
Culture Bar
Field first mindset with low ego and high accountability. Shows up early, stays engaged, and owns the outcome of the job from spud to TD. Treats everyone on location with respect, from the toolpusher to the newest floor hand.
Can take feedback, give feedback, and still share a coffee in the morning. If you bring the work ethic, we can teach the rest. If you do not bring the work ethic, you will not wear our logo.
2. How We Run Safety
Safety is not a poster. It is the operating system. Safety is not a slogan in the breakroom that people walk past without reading. It is the way every well is planned, executed, and reviewed, and these rules are not suggestions for our team.
Zero Compromise Rule
If it is not safe, we do not do it. No schedule, no AFE, and no ego outranks that decision at any time. Every Bird Dog hand has both the authority and the expectation to stop a job the instant something looks wrong.
Pre Job Discipline
Every job starts with a clear plan. The JSA is completed, discussed, and signed by the crew. Hazards are identified, controls are in place, and contingency steps are agreed on before anyone leaves the command center or steps onto the floor.
Roles and communication channels are defined up front and not left to chance. We do not wing it and we do not assume that everyone knows what is supposed to happen.
Tool Integrity and Verification
Motors, MWD kits, and surface gear are function tested and verified before they leave the shop. Calibration, serial numbers, and operating envelopes are documented clearly and tied back to the specific job.
If a piece of equipment cannot be traced or verified, it does not get run. The margin is not negotiable.
Live Monitoring and Fast Correction
Parameters, vibration, pulse, torque, pressure differential, and RPM are monitored in real time from headquarters where needed. If something drifts out of modeled limits, we respond while the bit is still on bottom rather than writing about it in a report after the fact.
We work to avoid post mortem surprises that could have been corrected live with a clear pair of eyes and a disciplined response.
Post Run Review
Every run is reviewed in detail. We document what worked, what did not, and what needs to change on the next run. Lessons learned are recorded, circulated, and built into the next well instead of being left in a notebook.
We do not tolerate repeat mistakes. We log them, own them, and eliminate them with deliberate corrective action.

Safety is stronger when people are not running on fumes. We built a culture that keeps our hands sharp in the field and sane at home because exhausted people make bad decisions and carry unnecessary risk for everyone around them.
Mental Health Comes First
We do real check ins instead of a quick “you good” over text. Time off actually happens, because rest is not a luxury for people who make high consequence decisions in harsh environments.
Leadership has been there, knows the miles, and refuses to treat people like disposable gear that can be swapped out whenever it is convenient.
Field First Leadership
The people calling the shots have worn the FRs, slept in the man camps, and stared out the same command center windows on long nights. We make decisions with the field in mind first, not the spreadsheet back in town.
When something goes sideways, we own it as a team and we fix it as a team. The blame game does not live here.
